The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) is a web-based portal that enables accredited CME providers to submit essential data about their educational activities. These data are utilized both in the ACCME’s initial and reaccreditation processes, and also contribute to system-level data reporting that is of value to numerous stakeholders. At its inception, the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) included an option for accredited providers to upload activities from a batch file format based on the Medbiquitous Metrics XML template. However, recent strategic initiatives have introduced new opportunities to evolve the data-exchange capabilities of PARS.

In this session, ACCME’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Jennifer Dunleavy, MSA CPA and Edward Kennedy, Assistant Director of Information and Technology will demonstrate new capabilities that have been added to PARS, including:

  • A web service for CME providers to report activities, using the Medbiquitous Metrics XML standard.
  • Provider reporting of learner data for CME activities registered for ABIM MOC, using a file format based on the Medbiquitous ActivityReport XML standard.
  • PARS includes both batch upload and web service methods for CME providers to submit activity and learner data.
  • CME activity data and ABIM MOC learner data is communicated to ABIM using Metrics and ActivityReport XML files, respectively.

The presentation will highlight developmental challenges and what strategies were implemented to overcome them. The session will include time for questions and interaction to share best-practices that attendees can use to inform their own approaches.
