As part of the development of the MedBiquitous Curriculum Inventory Standard, a subcommittee of the CI Working Group was established to create a standardized terminology set for use in documenting instructional methods, assessment methods, and resources used with instructional and assessment methods.
The subcommittee, which included representatives from US medical and osteopathic schools, was convened in spring 2011, and distributed a draft for review and comment to medical schools in November 2011. All suggestions for additions and changes were reviewed by the Subcommittee and CI Working Group, and a final version was distributed in June 2012. The MedBiquitous CI Working Group incorporated the Standardized Terminology for Instructional Methods and Assessment Methods into the CI Standard as required elements. Resources, which represented a new concept for most curriculum management systems, was implemented into the CI Standard as an optional element.
The Standardized Vocabulary was also implemented into AAMC’s MedEdPORTAL, an online resource of peer-reviewed teaching modules that are downloaded for use in health professions education around the world.
This session will discuss issues in the development and implementation of the Standardized Vocabulary, results of the implementation, and plans for revision of the vocabulary as part of the review and revision of the CI Standard.
