nTrackTM, is a system created by Skyscape to track nursing students’ clinical experiences throughout an educational program. Students use mobile devices to enter information about clinical encounters, which can be tracked by faculty. nTrackTM data can be used to track individual student performance as well as to gather aggregate data about a cohort or program. Data summaries can also printed for incorporation into portfolios for education, and employment, and accreditation purposes.
nTrackTM can be tailored to meet program-specific data needs, and is being used in both graduate and undergraduate nursing education. Faculty can review information about students’ clinical encounters and provide students timely feedback. Review of data for a particular student permits tailoring clinical experiences to meet particular needs.
At the University of San Diego, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, nTrackTM is being used in the prelicensure as well as the master’s level Nurse Practitioner programs. We are currently modifying nTrackTM to accommodate needs for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program to track accomplishment of DNP education competencies set forth in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (2006) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice.
