Although CEPAERs are mapped to PCRS, the mapping is many to many for most of the CEPAERs, and we cannot pull CEPAER linking out based on PCRS mapping. My first thought was that perhaps CEPAERs could be included as another drop-down list in your systems that schools could link instructional methods to, but I was struggling with whether we should try to fit CEPAERs also into the PCRS hierarchy and have schools map their Program Expectations to them as well. Jason Ladicos reminded me that we should also set systems up so that CEPAERs could be mapped primarily to Assessment Methods, as well, so I think, at a minimum, we need to set systems up for faculty to link CEPAERs to instructional and assessment methods so we can report on instructional content that helps students build competency in these areas, and what assessments are used to assess entrustability for the competencies. So, at a minimum, I would like to have CEPAERs available in your systems to link at the instructional and assessment methods level. I think this could be implemented without having to change the CI system, since these would just be additional content searches for us, as long as the below naming convention is used to expedite those searches. However, I am still wondering if we should ask schools to map Program Expectations to CEPAERs as well. Since we would not require this, I do not think it would require a change to the CI, but would just be another level of the competency framework. But, as you know, what I don't know about XML could fill an ocean, so I would appreciate your opinions. I would like to know the timeline you would need for adding CEPAERs to your systems for linking to instructional and assessment methods so I can make plans for the 2014-2015 uploads and start working with schools on the concept. Please note that I have included the CI Implementer list on this note to keep school developers in the loop, so, if you wish to reply only to me, you might make sure ciimplementer at medbiq.org is not in the To: field. I set the 'Reply to' to me, but I can't guarantee that will work! If you have thoughts about linking CEPAERs to CI data in general, I would appreciate those thoughts, as well. Here is my thought for how we might want to standardize CEPAER terminology in systems: CEPAER1: Gather a history and perform a physical examination CEPAER2: Prioritize a differential diagnosis following a clinical encounter CEPAER3: Recommend and interpret common diagnostic and screening tests CEPAER4: Enter and discuss orders/prescriptions CEPAER5: Document a clinical encounter in the patient record CEPAER6: Provide an oral presentation of a clinical encounter CEPAER7: Form Clinical Questions and retrieve evidence to advance patient care CEPAER8: Give or receive a patient handover to transition care responsibility CEPAER9: Collaborate as a member of an interprofessional team CEPAER10: Recognize a patient requiring urgent or emergent care, and initiate evaluation and management CEPAER11: Obtain informed consent for tests and/or procedures CEPAER12: Perform general procedures of a physician CEPAER13: Identify system failures and contribute to a culture of safety and improvement In case it is useful to you, here is how PCRS and CEPAERs are mapped (this is an image, so, if your e-mail system doesn't show it, you can find this chart in the attached document on Pages 103-104:: [cid:image001.png at 01D004CB.BC0EC0A0] [cid:image002.png at 01D004CB.BC0EC0A0] Thanks!
